Untreated heavy bleeding can cause anemia, and fibroids may complicate pregnancy depending on their size and location.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><h2><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Are\u00a0fibroids\u00a0more\u00a0common\u00a0in Black\u00a0women?<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Multiple studies confirm that Black women are diagnosed with fibroids at higher rates than white, Hispanic, and Asian women.\u00a0In fact, by the end of their reproductive years, 80-90% of Black women will have had a fibroid.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Black women\u00a0also tend to develop fibroids earlier,\u00a0typically\u00a0have more\u00a0numerous\u00a0and larger fibroids, and experience more severe symptoms.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In addition to fibroids being more common in Black women, they may also face higher recurrence rates after treatment.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Beyond prevalence, symptom burden and the type of care received can differ. Fibroids\u00a0in\u00a0Black women often present with heavy bleeding, pelvic pain, and anemia. They are\u00a02 to 3 times more likely\u00a0to undergo hysterectomy compared\u00a0to other racial groups, reflecting both biological influences and systemic barriers. These disparities underscore the importance of early evaluation, clear education, and access to comprehensive, culturally competent care.<\/span><span
