Q&A with Daniel R. Christie, M.D.
Why did you become a doctor/reproductive endocrinologist?
I grew up “wanting to be a doctor,” but it wasn’t until medical school that I felt drawn to a career in reproductive health. During my OB/GYN residency I was exposed to reproductive endocrinology/infertility for the first time, and it was truly “love at first sight.” The rest, I guess, is history.
What about IVF FLORIDA makes you the proudest?
IVF FLORIDA is a large practice, but I am especially proud of the personalized attention that we are able to give our patients.
Describe a time when a patient inspired you.
There are SO many inspiring stories that run through my mind. The common thread is the steely determination that patients show during treatment despite seemingly insurmountable headwinds. I love the evolution that occurs when their efforts are successful; it’s initially guarded optimism with the positive pregnancy test, followed by the, at first reluctant, then euphoric acceptance that “This is really happening!!!” when we get to the ultrasound.
What is your approach to helping patients who are struggling?
Foremost, I want to be candid with patients with respect to their diagnosis and prognosis. However, in doing so, I want to be sure patients hear and truly understand that there are always options and avenues available. Lastly, I would like to remind them that many patients in similar circumstances have come before them, and many have been successful.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
My wife will say that my singular vice is my unhealthy obsession with Clemson football.
