Marcelo J. Barrionuevo, M.D., is a board-certified Reproductive Endocrinologist who provides care at IVF FLORIDA’s Margate and Pembroke Pines locations. He brings more than 25 years of experience helping individuals and couples build their families, offering thoughtful guidance and personalized treatment for a wide range of fertility challenges. His clinical expertise includes in vitro fertilization (IVF), fertility preservation, and complex diagnoses and treatments involving both female and male infertility.

Dr. Barrionuevo is known for his thorough, compassionate approach and for taking the time to understand each patient’s unique goals. He joined IVF FLORIDA in 1998 after completing his fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of South Florida, where he also served on the faculty. In addition to caring for patients, he remains active in advancing the field through teaching and leadership. 

Dr. Barrionuevo has served as president of the Florida Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (FSREI), the Miami OB/GYN Society, and the Fort Lauderdale OB/GYN Society. Currently, he is the REI Division Director in the Department of OB/GYN in the Memorial Health System and the REI Division Director in the Department of OB/GYN in HCA Florida Northwest Hospital. He also teaches as a Voluntary Clinical Professor at the University of Miami, Florida International University, and Florida Atlantic University.

Throughout his career, Dr. Barrionuevo has been recognized for his dedication to mentorship, education, and delivering care that puts patients first.

Why did you become a doctor/reproductive endocrinologist? 
Because of the desire to help patients in need and the passion to continue to learn all the advances in the reproductive endocrinology field.

What about IVF FLORIDA makes you the proudest?
The family environment and the commitment of our sensitive staff who are always willing to go the extra mile to comfort and guide our patients.

Describe a time when a patient inspired you.
Most of our patients inspire me with their resilience and strength when facing adversity, as well as their happiness and humble gratitude when accomplishing successful treatment results.

What is your approach to helping patients who are struggling?
I like to listen to everything they need to tell me first before giving them my opinion and recommendations.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends as well as training and competing in different sports activities.
