Treatment Options Lesbian Couples

IVF FLORIDA is proud to help lesbian couples create families with the assistance of fertility treatments. At our practice in the Ft Lauderdale area, we offer a variety of options for same-sex couples. The process will begin with an initial consultation with one of our Board Certified Reproductive Endocrinologists where we will review your full medical history, conduct a variety of tests to evaluate the fertility of either partner, and finally discuss treatment and financial options.

Intrauterine Insemination

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is a common procedure used by lesbian couples seeking to create a family. In this procedure, donor sperm (from either a known or unknown donor) is injected directly into the uterus of the partner who will carry the pregnancy on the day of ovulation. The timing of ovulation can be controlled through the use of fertility medications and will be monitored closely.

In vitro Fertilization

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a procedure utilized by many lesbian couples wherein one or both partners has difficulty conceiving. In this process, the carrying partner will undergo ovarian hyperstimulation to produce multiple eggs. These eggs are then retrieved and combined with donor sperm in a laboratory dish for fertilization to occur. The resulting embryo(s) is then transferred to the carrying partner’s uterus to develop naturally.

Reciprocal IVF

In reciprocal IVF, both partners of a lesbian couple can be involved in the conception of their child. For couples who do not have infertility, this process allows the eggs to be retrieved from one partner, fertilized with donor sperm, and then transferred into the other partner who then carries the pregnancy.

Donor Sperm

Lesbian couples can choose to utilize sperm from either known or unknown donors. For unknown donors, IVF FLORIDA works closely with Fairfax Cryobank, one of the largest and most trusted sperm banks.

Donor Egg

For lesbian couples in which neither partner is able to produce eggs that result in viable embryos, donor eggs may be an option for them to experience carrying and birthing a child. IVF FLORIDA is also proud to offer the Attain IVF Program, which offers a 70% refund if treatment with donor eggs is unsuccessful.
